A DRIVE

My lifelong friend/cousin and I were driving along, lost in our own thoughts. Quietly, he said,”Man we’ve really arrived. You’re a lawyer. I’m a doctor. And we’re cruising along in a Mercedes. Who would have ever thought?” We both smiled smugly. Some reflective time passed, and I said,” Yeah, but you’re not really a doctor, you’re only a chiropractor.” And he said,” We’ll you’re not really a lawyer, you only finished law school.” Quiet again. And then finally he said, ” And hell, this Mercedes has 240,000 miles on it!” We laughed and laughed, happy that the American dream had room for even the two of us.
